Tenant Spotlight: FoodCorps

FoodCorps works to connect kids to healthy food in schools; creating a future in which kids in the Tucson community know what healthy food is, care where it comes from, and eat it every day. The organization seeks to address inequality, healthy food access, and education for kids.

FoodCorps is proud to be a part of the AmeriCorps Service Network of over 250 members serving in 17 states and the DC Metro area. In Arizona, there are 9 service members serving schools in Tucson, Phoenix, and Flagstaff, engaging K-5 students in hands-on lessons about gardening, cooking, and making healthy choices. They also provide opportunities to taste new foods while supporting their school cafeteria teams and promoting healthy choices. FoodCorps service is more than just numbers. For their service members, it’s about going the extra mile to make participation a memorable experience for students and family while creating life-long connections.

FoodCorps Arizona’s program is managed by Shannon Whitewater with support from FoodCorps Americorps Service Member Alice Finley-Pyle in the role of Team Leader.  The organization is grateful to work on the Community Foundation Campus!

“The work we do — the work all of us do — cannot be successful without community. Working remotely often leads to feelings of isolation, but the inspiring organizations and collaborative community here counteracts that,” said Alice Finley-Pyle, AZ Team Leader.
